Recall of Some OTC Children's Medicine

McNeil Consumer Healthcare and FDA are in the process of notifying healthcare professionals of a voluntary recall of certain over-the-counter (OTC) Children’s and Infants’ liquid products manufactured in the United States, including Tylenol Infants' Drops, Children's Tylenol suspensions, Children's Tylenol Plus suspensions. Motrin Infants' Drops, Childrens Motrin suspensions, Childrens Motrin Cold suspensions, Childrens Zyrtec Liquid in bottles, Chidlrens Benedryl Allergy Liquids in bottles. (Full list available here.) This is the second time in less than a year that McNeil has had to recall Tylenol products. Back in September of 2009, McNeil voluntarily recalled 21 of its children’s liquid Tylenol product, as an unused portion of one inactive ingredient did not meet all quality standards

According to the McNeil website, “McNeil Consumer Healthcare is initiating this voluntary recall because some of these products may not meet required quality standards. This recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse medical events…. Some of the products included in the recall may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified; others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles. While the potential for serious medical events is remote, the company advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use.”

These products were distributed in the United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait.

Meanwhile, McNeil Consumer Healthcare is conducting a comprehensive quality assessment across its manufacturing operations. They have identified corrective actions that will be implemented before new manufacturing is initiated.

New Ohio Booster Seat Law

Every child must be in a car or booster seat unless they’re 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall or taller.

The law goes into effect in October and means that once a child outgrows their safety seat, they move to a booster or combination seat.

“Before this law, here in Ohio, we were required to have a child in a car seat until she was 4 years of age or 40 pounds. Now, all those kids beyond 4 years of age have to be in a booster until they are 8 unless they are 4 feet 9 inches tall,“ said Judy Hirschfield, a passenger safety program specialist.

The reason for the change is that kids who are between the ages of 5 and 8 don’t fit well in a seatbelt made for an adult. The seat gives them a boost.

The booster seat attaches with the seatbelt.

“The lap belt is low on the pelvic bone and the shoulder strap comes right over her shoulder when we have her in the booster,“ Hirschfield said.

The booster can have either a high or low back—both protect children in a crash.

“There is an inclination for the child to put the should belt under her arm or behind her back and then in a crash, she lunges, her body lunges forward and there’s a lot of serious injury,“ Hirschfield said.

Warnings will be given to parents starting in October and citations will be given starting in April 2010 as a second offense.

Excited for the New Year!

This year's steering team got together today to go over some last minute items for the meeting next week. Everyone is very excited to see what God has in store for our MOPS group in the upcoming months.

We couldn't have had this meeting if it wasn't for Lisa and John McCoy. They watched ALL of our children so we could have some uninterrupted time. We are so thankful for their help! Thanks McCoys!

A Message from the Steering Team

WELCOME LADIES!

We hope you have had a nice summer with your families. But with the weather turning cooler, and the hum of school buses in the morning, that can only mean one thing. . . IT'S TIME FOR MOPS! (AND BUCKEYE FOOTBALL!!! YEAH!!)

The steering team is very excited about the 09-10 MOPS year,and it is already bringing some changes from last year. . .Lisa McCoy, our coordinator for the last two years, is taking on a different role with our hospitality team. Natascha Hinduja, Stacie Garvine and April Litman are serving as coordinators this year. Can you imagine; it's taking three women to do the work of one? Thanks for your hard work Lisa!

Just like mothering, our MOPS year is going to be full of change. I am eager to reconnect with my MOPS friends and to get to know new women. It's a blessing to be a part of MOPS.

Our theme for this year from MOPS International is “Together on Planet Mom”. The MOPS experience equips women for the joys and challenges of their lives as moms. One key factor in the MOPS experience is the relationships built within a group. MOPS moms share that the friends they make in MOPS are significant for this season of their life and on into the future. God created us for relationship! It’s one of the defining parts of being human.

However, when you become a mom, all your relationships change. It’s like you have landed on a different plant – Planet Mom – and the relationships on “Planet Mom” don’t look like the ones on your previous planet. Your relationship with yourself is different – you are a mom! Your relationship with your husband, girlfriends, extended family, community and God have all changed. Many of these changes are positive,some are not. Even positive change requires adjustments on your part.

During the 09-10 MOPS year, we will explore how to thrive in relationships Together on Planet Mom.
